Season 2026/2027

During the 2026/2027 season, we explore the theme Roots and origins – the connection between music and human history, origins, and our bond with nature.

The 2026/2027 season sees the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Choir joined by guest conductors and soloists in music spanning several centuries, up to the present day. The orchestra’s new Chief Conductor, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, leads them in several concerts. The Swedish soprano Malin Byström is Artist in Residence, and the theme “Roots and origins” runs as a unifying thread throughout the season.

Season 2026/2027

The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s concert season opens in grand style with Principal Guest Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev and the world-renowned soprano Nina Stemme. Throughout the season, a string of international star soloists appears, including soprano Barbara Hannigan and violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Alina Ibragimova. P2’s Classical Artist, violist Ami-Louise Johnsson, also features in several concerts.

The Swedish Radio Choir presents an extensive season programme featuring works by Ørjan Matre, B. Tommy Andersson’s Passio Secundum Matthaeum, and James MacMillan’s Ordo Virtutum. During the season, the choir is led by its Principal Guest Conductor Krista Audere, as well as former Chief Conductor Peter Dijkstra, Zoltán Pad, and chorus master Marc Korovitch.

Artist in Residence: Malin Byström

The season’s Artist in Residence is soprano Malin Byström, who has enjoyed a dazzling career on the international classical music scene in recent years. She appears, among other works, in Strauss’s Drei Hymnen von Friedrich Hölderlin and Marc-Anthony Turnage’s Festen, a commission by the Swedish Radio Symphony

Guest conductors and powerful musical encounters

During the season, leading conductors including Nathalie Stutzmann, Kazuki Yamada, Manfred Honeck, Anja Bihlmaier, Daniel Harding and Thomas Adès appear. Andrés Orozco-Estrada, who makes his debut as Chief Conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Baltic Sea Festival, returns several times throughout the season.

World premieres and commissioned works

The season’s world premieres and commissioned works include Karen Tanaka’s trumpet concerto, written for Håkan Hardenberger, Mark-Anthony Turnage’s suite from Festen (co-commissioned with Malmö Live), and a new orchestral work by Matthew Peterson. To mark composer Britta Byström’s 50th birthday, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra has commissioned the work A Walk to Sibelius.

Artistic collaborations and productions for children

With Bowie in Berlin, conductor and arranger Hans Ek returns together with Magnus Carlson, Moto Boy and Jennie Abrahamsson to David Bowie’s iconic Berlin Trilogy. Drawing on the albums Low, "Heroes" and Lodger, the concert creates a haunting musical journey through one of the most influential periods in pop history.

To mark Nils Landgren’s 70th anniversary, he returns in the concerts Love of My Life together with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Berwaldhallen also offers experiences for the very youngest audiences. Throughout the year, children and families can enjoy musical activities and imaginative performances – including Humlan Djojj on an advdenture with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Radioapan also returns with a brand-new musical adventure at Berwaldhallen together with Niklas Riesbeck, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and all their friends.

Additional artist collaborations in genre-crossing concerts will be presented throughout the season, alongside more productions for children.
