Spring Fire with Orozco-Estrada & Byström

Spring is lit in Berwaldhallen when Chief Conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada leads the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Choir in a program that ranges from Walpurgis romance to dramatic music festivities. Helena Munktell's Walpurgis Mass Fire opens the concert with a sparkling choral and orchestral sound, before Artist in Residence Malin Byström steps forward in Richard Strauss's intense finale from the opera Capriccio. After the intermission follows the Swedish premiere of a suite from Mark Anthony Turnage's Festen (The Party), and as the culmination: Mendelssohn's Die Erste Walpurgisnacht, where myth, singing power, and the shadows of spring night meet in a magnificent choral work.
