The Swedish Radio Choir's anniversary year
The Radio Choir’s 100th anniversary gives us the opportunity to celebrate the history, tradition, flexibility, and innovative creative spirit of this wonderful group. – Kaspar Putnins, chief conductor
Celebrating All Year
The Radio Choir is celebrating its first century throughout the entire year of 2025. In February and March, there will be three anniversary concerts where the program reflects the choir's history and development, under the direction of chief conductor Kaspars Putnins and choirmaster Marc Korovitch. In October, it's time for the grand anniversary concert at Berwaldhallen, featuring a brand-new mass by six Swedish composers commissioned by the Radio Choir for this occasion. Former members will also participate in the concert.
Tour in Japan and Documentaries about the Choir
In 2025, the Radio Choir will perform in Gothenburg and Japan. During the latter tour, the veteran conductor Herbert Blomstedt, born just two years after the Radio Choir was founded, will lead them. An SVT documentary about the Radio Choir is in production and will be broadcast in the fall of 2025. Additionally, Sveriges Radio P2 will highlight the choir by rebroadcasting an updated documentary series about the audition process for new singers. Of course, the Radio Choir's concerts will also be broadcast, so keep an eye on Sveriges Radio!
The Start of the Anniversary Year
The year began with the Radio Choir as singing guests on TV4 Nyhetsmorgon, almost exactly 100 years to the hour after the Radio Choir's first performance. A few weeks later, the choir performed with artist Amanda Bergman at Sveriges Radio's P3 Gold Gala. See the clip from the gala below. Hans Ek conducts and has written the arrangement for the song "Wild Geese, Wild Love."
Grand conclusion
After the grand anniversary concert in October, the celebration will conclude in December with two concerts at Berwaldhallen. First, a powerful performance of György Ligeti's Requiem, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, a work that the Radio Choir premiered in 1965. Then, Bach's Christmas Oratorio conducted by Kaspars Putnins.
