During an intensive period of workshops, these young talents explore their music-making through technical and artistic challenges. With dialogue, trust and a desire to experiment, they create new expressions and develop their craft mentored by the Finnish cellist Anssi Karttunen and Estonian composer Helena Tulve. ARTS LAB is an exclusive opportunity to hear these voices take shape.

Creative Dialogue was founded in 2007 by Anssi Karttunen, Kaija Saariaho and Magnus Lindberg. With the project, they wanted to create a unique opportunity for their younger colleagues to learn their craft from each other. Creative Dialogue is a platform for young instrumentalists and composers to inspire each other through improvisation, communication and mentorship. Participants are invited on the recommendation of teachers from all over the world.

Voksenåsen’s Talent Program offers young musicians a year of tailored development through mentorship, workshops and concerts. The program provides tools and networks for a sustainable career in classical music. Voksenåsen’s artistic directors are Peter Herresthal, Randi Stene and Andreas Sundén.

In this concert we will hear the fruits of the workshop. The pieces by the young composers rehearsed and revised during the workshop and will be heard in their final form. The pieces will be for clarinet and string quartet. All the participants, composers and instrumentalists together,  also took part in improvisation workshops and will perform an ensemble improvisation.
