Salonen & Wang x 2

In the fourth part of Esa-Pekka Salonen's residency, the conductor and composer is joined by the world-renowned pianist Yuja Wang to perform not one, but two concertos: Einojuhani Rautavaara's Piano Concerto No. 1 and Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. Before that, Jean Sibelius' groundbreaking one-movement Symphony No. 7 in C major. The concert concludes with Claude Debussy's beloved symphonic sketch La Mer (The Sea).

Both Debussy and Ravel have been incredibly important [to me]. Literally, I had La mere on my bedside table for a couple of years. I mean, it never left my side because I was so mesmerised by that piece, and I was trying to learn. – Esa-Pekka Salonen
