Join the Baltic Sea Festival's traditional family day for all ages, Sunday 31 August! Try playing instruments, meet Radioapan, lab with the Baltic Sea Science Center and much more.

During Family day, Berwaldhallen is hosts its annual open house and offers many free activities. For example, try playing an instrument together with young students from the Kulturskolan orchestra school/El Sistema, meet Radioapan, go on a quiz walk, play conductor in a unique VR experience, have something to eat, marvel at the self-playing piano and more.

Berwaldhallen’s foyers and Café Berwald are open from 10:30-15:00, and all activities in the foyer are free! (All activities are in Swedish.)

Family day activities

  • Meet Radioapan

    During the day, Radioapan visits Berwaldhallen at several time slots for waves and hugs.

  • Try instruments

    Students from the Kulturskolan orchestra school/El Sistema return to the Baltic Sea Festival's family day to let curious music lovers try out different instruments.

  • Lab with the Baltic Sea Science Center

    Look at living plankton under a magnifying glass, explore the tiny creatures of bladderwrack in a water tank, and learn more about fish skeletons together with Skansen's Baltic Sea Science Center. Come and be fascinated by the little things that make a big difference in the Baltic Sea!

  • Listen to "Randiga Sagor"

    Join 8-year-old Vilma and the suitcase when they meet a Finnish sauna elf, a Tornedal ice fisherman, a Jewish Golem, a Roma family rug and the Sami windman Biegg´olmmai in "The Flying Suitcase" - an audio adventure for children from five years old and their adults.

  • Sing-along for young and old

    Join us for a cozy singing session in the foyer with Lovisa Svensson and Nils Närman Svensson (from the performance Sonia and the Dream of the Sea).

  • See a show

    Join in on an adventure with shipbuilder Sonia, who is afraid of the sea, in this family performance with script by Henrik Ståhl and music by Emmy Lindström.

  • Marvel at the self-playing piano

    Last year's wildly popular self-playing piano is making an appearance again this year! Do you recognize the song it plays?

  • Take a quiz walk

    How much do you know about music? Take the quiz walk and test your knowledge!

  • Dream in the dream kiosk

    Step into the reflective world of the dream kiosk and dream away for a while to beautiful music.

  • Conduct in virtual reality

    Try conducting an orchestra! With the help of AI and visualization technology, you can take the place of conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven's Fifth at the Technical Museum's Wisdome on September 7. But during Family Day there is a simpler VR version to try in Berwaldhallen.
