Verdi's Requiem

Participants

The orchestra Filialen was first founded in 1993 and carried out its first symphony orchestra project in 1994. Today, the orchestra is Stockholm’s largest amateur symphony orchestra with over 200 members. The members are advanced amateur musicians, music students, music teachers and former professional musicians. This means that the orchestra can perform works that require both high playing skills and large scale. How many and which musicians that participate is determined by what is required in each individual project, and varies from smaller ensembles to large symphony orchestras with over a hundred musicians. Thanks to the large membership base and the fact that the activities are conducted in project form, they have very good opportunities to adapt the ensemble at each concert to the requirements of the piece as well as to the individual members’ interest and opportunity to participate. The members contribute voluntarily with their musical skills based on their great interest in orchestral playing.

The orchestra Filialen performs around ten concerts each year. Some of these are their own concert productions, for other projects the orchestra works with clients, often together with church choirs. Their repertoire is therefore varied, even though the emphasis is on music for large symphony orchestras from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day.
