Reich & Handel

Handel’s delightfully sumptuous Water Music is light-hearted festive music commissioned in 1717 by King George I to be played on a floating stage on the Thames. Here, it becomes an almost jarring companion piece to Steve Reich’s ominous The Desert Music from 1983, with its cautionary message about global nuclear war.
