Musical storytelling: Petrushka

Jimmy López’s Perú negro is a unique hybrid of Peruvian folk music and western classical music, the result of a Peruvian upbringing followed by musical studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland. Other, equally unpredictable paths, are taken by violinist Pekka Kuusisto in Daníel Bjarnason’s newly written violin concerto. In the hands of Klaus Mäkelä, Stravinsky’s ballet Petrushka turns into a magnificent musical spectacle. A sparkling Nordic concert spiced with South American heat. The concert on Friday will be livestreamed at Berwaldhallen Play.
