Encouraged by her parents, Amanda Maier-Röntgen showed an early talent for music, and graduated from what is now the Royal College of Music at age 19. She toured Europe as a violinist, studied composition in Leipzig , and wrote her Violin Sonata in B minor, among others. Fritz Kreisler composed as himself and using a nom de plume, but is mainly known as a skilled violinist. Edvard Grieg is often associated with the music from Peer Gynt, but he also wrote a lot of chamber music, including this violin sonata.
