Bach's Magnificat

Bach’s setting of the Canticle of Mary is one of two masterful Baroque pieces at this concert. If his Magnificat represents the steady hand of the accomplished composer, Handel’s Dixit Dominus is an example of the sprightly and spectacular work of a young composer, which nonetheless lacks neither charm nor artistic quality.
