American Sounds

A programme with both established and brand-new music from the other side of the Atlantic with Romanian conductor Cristian Măcelaru and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Samuel Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra is followed by the Swedish premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ trumpet concerto with renowned trumpetist Alison Balsom. Finally, Aaron Copland’s majestic last symphony.

Programme change:

Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3 replaces the previously announced work “Play” by Andrew Norman.

Approximate duration: 1 hr 50 mins with intermission

The trumpet concert is a joint commission by The Cleveland Orchestra, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Orchester Symphonique de Montréal, London Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. This is the first time the music will be performed in Sweden.
