Dvořák’s Sixth Symphony

Norwegian composer and music critic Pauline Hall was a prominent figure in the cultural life in Norway during the early part of the 20th. The orchestral piece Foire is a part of her impressionistic Verlain suite from 1929. For his opera Intermezzo Richard Strauss wrote his own libretto based on events from his marriage, the subject matter being a misunderstanding between him and his wife that almost led to divorce. The work’s stylish entr’acte has become especially popular. The concert will conclude with Antonín Dvořák’s airy and life-affirming sixth symphony. The young Czech musician Petr Popelka, principal conductor of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, will be at the helm of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

We have the pleasure of inviting you to a chamber music recital after the concert on the 8th of March. You are most welcome to stay, the performance will begin after a brief interval. The bonusconcert will consist of chamber music by Amanda Maier-Röntgen, Valborg Aulin, Rebecka Clarke, Germaine Tailleferre, and Imogen Holst. A completely female program for the International Womens day.
