The City in the Sea
At the Finnish Institute, chamber music and poetry come together as musicians from the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and actor Maria Salomaa present a programme that moves between sea, dream and verse. Kaija Saariaho’s evocative Laconisme de l’aile (The Terseness of a Wing) is paired with Matthew Whittall’s The City in the Sea, inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s vision of a sunken city, before the concert concludes with Debussy’s masterly Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp. The music is reflected in poetry by the Finnish writers Sanna Karlström and Markku Paasonen.
This production is part of one or more concert series.
This concert forms part of a collaboration between Berwaldhallen, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Finnish Institute, exploring the meeting of chamber music and poetry throughout the 2026/2027 season
