Hannigan sings Messaien & Zorn 

With Barbara Hannigan and pianist Bertrand Chamayou, we encounter the goddesses of the Finnish creation myth, the Kalevala, in John Zorn’s strikingly virtuosic and “unsingable” Jumalattaret (The Goddesses). Hannigan also performs Olivier Messiaen’s radiant song cycle Chants de terre et de ciel (Songs of Earth and Heaven), and George Benjamin’s Division for Four Handsreceives its Swedish premiere, with the composer himself at the piano. In between, piano works by Alexander Scriabin offer moments of respite within an intense and evocative programme.
