Emotion and enchantment

The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conjures a surge of emotions and the power of the fairy tale under the steady hand of Alan Gilbert, with concertmaster Malin Broman as soloist. The evening opens with Dalit Warshaw's Responses, written as an answer to three intermezzos by Johannes Brahms, and continues with Belá Bartók's first violin concerto – a personal, lyrical two-movement piece that contains both dream and dance. After the intermission, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade follows: a colourful orchestral suite where the solo violin becomes the narrator in a world of adventure, sea breezes and oriental tales.
