Beethoven 250: Fidelio

Beethoven’s only opera, with a strikingly relevant narrative: The heroic Leonore rescues her husband Florestan, who is being held as a political prisoner after attempting to expose the villainous deeds of Pizarro, the prison governor. Despite hearing rumours of Florestan’s death, Leonore dresses as a man, adopts the name Fidelio and infiltrates Pizarro’s prison to free her beloved.
