Impressions from the dance floor
The polska, minuet and other dances are as common in the music of Baroque composers as they are in traditional fiddler music. When the royal courts assembled their orchestras, regular court musicians played side by side with skilled folk musicians who otherwise played at home or at barn dances. Today, folk music and classical music intertwine once again, inspiring new generations of composers.
