Berwaldhallen is the concert hall of Swedish Radio and home to the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Choir, two ensembles of international distinction. 

The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra collaborates regularly with some of the world's leading conductors, soloists and composers. In August 2026, Andrés Orozco-Estrada assumed the position of Music Director of the orchestra.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with an internationally renowned symphony orchestra and some of the foremost artists in classical music today. 

As part of Swedish Radio, Berwaldhallen offers an exceptional platform extending far beyond the concert hall. Through nationwide radio broadcasts, international distribution via the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and a wide range of digital platforms, our performances reach audiences both nationally and internationally. 

As Head of Artistic Planning, you will be responsible for the long-term artistic planning and programming of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Baltic Sea Festival, and selected areas of Berwaldhallen's wider concert programme. 

Working closely with the General Manager, the Music Director and the Orchestra Programming Council, you will play a key role in shaping future concert seasons and ensuring the highest artistic standards and relevance. 

The position involves extensive collaboration with conductors, soloists, artist managers, musicians and partners in Sweden and internationally. You will also work closely with Swedish Radio's music and broadcasting producers, as well as colleagues in production management, music library services, marketing and communications. 

You will be a member of the Berwaldhallen Management Team and report directly to the General manager. 

Key Responsibilities

You will, among other things: 

• Lead the long-term artistic planning and programming of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Baltic Sea Festival 

• Hold overall responsibility for Berwaldhallen's chamber music programme 

• Develop repertoire and artistic projects together with the Music Director and senior management 

• Contribute to Berwaldhallen's programming strategy and Swedish Radio's public service mission 

• Collaborate with Swedish Radio P2 on concerts, broadcasts and repertoire development 

• Manage relationships with artist agencies, conductors and soloists 

• Plan national and international tours 

• Negotiate and draft contracts 

You will also play an important role in Berwaldhallen's hospitality and frequently participate in welcoming guest conductors and soloists.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

• Has substantial experience of artistic planning and programming within orchestral, operatic or other high-level musical organisations 
• Possesses extensive knowledge of the symphonic repertoire and the international classical music landscape 

• Has experience of international collaborations, negotiations, music rights and contract management 

• Has experience of initiating and leading development projects 
• Is fluent in English; proficiency in Swedish is advantageous

Terms of Employment

This is a permanent full-time position, with a starting date by agreement. 

The role is based in Stockholm, Sweden, at Radiohuset and Berwaldhallen.
