On June 13, this year’s hosts of “Sommar i P1” are presented. That same night, the concert “Sommarvärdarnas önskekonsert” is arranged for the very first time – a concert filled with the favourite music of the hosts, played by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Some of the hosts will join the orchestra on stage. The concert will be compered by Bibi Rödöö. And will also be broadcast live on Swedish Radio P2.

– It’s going to be an amazing night! Music is an integral part of the radio shows and the hosts always select their music with great care. The concert will feature the hosts telling us about their favourite pieces and, together with the listeners and the audience at Berwaldhallen, they will hear them performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, says Bibi Rödöö, Head of Programming at “Sommar i P1”.

“Sommarvärdarnas önskekonsert” will contain a mix of different genres, with everything from classical pieces to pop, rock, ballads and jazz. The full programme and the hosts whose music has been selected will be revealed on June 13, but some examples of what will be played include Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix, the jazz standard It was a very good year and the Andante movement from Mozart’s Piano Concerto no. 21. The music is performed by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anna-Maria Helsing.

Anna-Maria Helsing has gained an outstanding reputation with leading Scandinavian orchestras and opera houses. Simultaneously to her studies in the class of Leif Segerstam the Finnish conductor was chosen to take part in the International Conductor’s Academy Allianz to be trained by Esa-Pekka Salonen and Gustavo Dudamel with the Philharmonia Orchestra.

From 2010 to 2013 Anna-Maria Helsing was Chief Conductor of the Oulu Symphony – the first-ever female conductor at the head of a Finnish symphony orchestra.

Within a short time the Finnish conductor has conducted all the major Finnish and Swedish orchestras including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish National Opera Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony and Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra. She started her career as a violinist and has been leading chamber orchestras before serving as conductor of the Wegelius Chamber Orchestra and Artistic Director of the Pietarsaari Sinfonietta.

The Stenhammar Quartet consists of violinists Peter Olofsson and Per Ӧman, violist Tony Bauer, and cellist Mats Olofsson, and has established itself as one of Scandinavia’s top string quartets. Wilhelm Stenhammar’s works, as well as other Swedish music, are central in the ensemble’s repertoire, but there is also a great focus on both Viennese Classicism and contemporary music. The quartet has commissioned works from Swedish composers such as Sven-David Sandström, Victoria Borisova-Ollas, and Per Mårtensson, but have also had works dedicated to them, and performed premieres of pieces by American, British, Finnish and Norwegian composers. The quartet has recorded some 40 works for Swedish Radio P2, and participated in a concert series recorded by Swedish Radio including all of Stenhammar’s chamber music, in 2011. Their recordings have been celebrated both in Swedish and international press. They have participated in festivals, toured in Germany, England, India, and Algeria, for instance, and performed in TV contexts such as the Melody Festival and the Polar Music Prize.
